Abstract
Being essential in human food, wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) has great economic importance for the majority of world's populations. Since that in Pakistan it is present as one of the most consumable food and wheat production represents significant share of total agricultural production. Due to its nutritional value Pakistan is working to improve wheat production and aiming to increase wheat grain yield potential. Beside of great effort to improve varieties, salinity could present one of the major problems in wheat production. Since that salinity may be occurred naturally termed as primary salinity or due to human activity called secondary salinity, level of salinity is increasing all over the world, especially in developing countries. In Pakistan there is poor management of water drainage system. In current research six common wheat varieties of Pakistan, namely, ANAJ-2017, UJALA-2016, Galaxy-2013, FAISALABAD-2008, SHAFAQ-2006 and INQALAB-1991 were used to estimate find the effects of salt stress on different morphological traits of wheat. During the study, wheat varieties were treated with sodium chloride solution. The results of analysis of variance showed the highest root weight in genotype ANAJ-2017 which reached 0.6663 g. Higher stem weight was found in genotype SHAFAQ-2006 that was 0.4179 g, while higher leaf diameter was also found in the same genotype SHAFAQ-2006 with value of 0.1240 mm.
Keywords: Wheat, sodium chloride, MS media, variance analysis.
