Abstract
Rutin of Ruta graveolens is an essential secondary metabolite that has been commonly used in therapeutic drugs for a variety of functions. The use of Mannitol and PEG elicitation to increase accumulation of Rutin in Ruta graveolens cell suspension culture will be an important alternative approach for accumulation of Rutin. The effect of mannitol and PEG as osmotic elicitors on the in vitro growth of cell suspension cultures of Ruta graveolens as well as the accumulation in rutin was investigated in this research. Mannitol displayed the fastest growth rate (250 mg/day) at a level 50 g/l. The highest content of Rutin (60.15 mg/l) with a medium containing 100 g/l Mannitol was reported, followed by 45.1 mg/l with a medium containing 150 g/l Mannitol.
