In-vivo ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF Spinacia oleracea IN FLUORIDE INDUCED BIOCHEMICAL DISORDER AND RENAL OXIDATIVE STRESS IN WISTAR RATS

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of Spinacia oleracea on biochemical alterations and renal oxidative stress induced by Fluoride in rats.
Materials and methods: Eighteen Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 3 groups (n=6); Control, Fluoride (NaF) rats and NaF rats treated with Spinacia oleracea. Treatments were given to rats for 21 days.
Results: In-vitro phytochemical analysis results revealed that Spinacia oleracea contains phenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, tannins and steroids. In vivo esults, in NaF group showed an alteration in lipid profile and biochemical parameters. While, results showed an increase in MDA level and a decrease in GSH levels compared to control. Moreover, the hematological parameters revealed that NaF induce a significant diminution (P<0.01) of WBC, and Lymphocyte levels. In the other hand, histopathological analysis noted an alteration in kidney tissues of NaF rats group compared to control. However, treatment of NaF rats by Spinacia oleracea ensured a partial amelioration and correction of the previous parameters.
Conclusion: The use of Spinacia oleracea appears to be the dominant limited of oxidative stress, development and complications of kidney function alteration induced by NaF which can have a beneficial effects against others diseases which oxidative stress plays an important role.
