Abstract

At this time, global warming is having a number of effects on the environment. As a result, natural forests have a huge impact on the global carbon cycle and sinking. This study was conducted in the Fachi natural forests in the Amhara Region's LiboKemekem district. The study's aim is to calculate the carbon stock in the Fachi natural forest. Through systematization, 20 by 20 meter 400m2 or 0.04ha methods were developed. The measurement of diameter at breast height ((≥ 5 cm) and height (m) for tree species was done on purpose. The suggested allometric equation was used to measure the AGB of each species, and the BGB was calculated as 20% of the AGB. From the Fachi natural forest and basal area, a total of 40 woody species and 2472 individual tree species were present in the 45 plots. Fachi's natural forest included 15.6 m2/ha of trees with a diameter of 5 cm or greater. As a result, the above-ground carbon estimate of 325.12 ton/ha for the Fachi natural forest sinks the carbon level, while the forest's below-ground carbon was 65.02 ton/ha. The cumulative carbon above and below ground carbon, with CO2 equivalents of 1431.85 tons per acre, is projected to be 390.15 tons per acre. Other researchers agree with the outcomes, and this result was used as a baseline to determine the amount of preservative carbon in the forest. Furthermore, aid in the enrichment of forest biodiversity and the sequestration of more carbon in a shorter period of time.
