Abstract

Ganoderma lucidum is an important multipotential medicinal mushroom with a specific biological activity. This Fungal species has enlarged fruiting bodies and are antagonistically active on other fungal species. Five different fungal elements were isolated from the leaves of Psidium guava, which is infected with fungus and assessed to check antifungal nature of Ganoderma lucidum. Antifungal activity was assessed by making use of well diffusion method. Fungal species were isolated and identified by making use of standard textual methods. Results indicated the importance of fungal fruiting bodies as an effective antifungal agent. Aqueous extract produced 13.0±4.3mm zone of inhibition against Fusarium sp. Similarly, all other extracts also produced effective inhibitory effect on Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus terreus, Aspergillus sydowii, Fusarium species and Penicillium species.  Among four extracts, three extracts (Aqueous, ethanol and methanol extracts) produced effective MIC for Aspergillus niger at 150µg/ml concentrations. Other organisms require higher concentrations of extracts to inhibits the growth. MFC required for complete destruction of fungal species were ranges from 150.0±40.8µg/mL to 450±40.8 µg/mL concentrations.
