Abstract
Synthetic polymers manufactured from crude oils or other petroleum products are harmful to the environment due to their degradation resistivity and occupy a large percentage (by weight and by mass) of total waste present on the earth’s ecosystem. A compatible alternative to the synthetic polymer are being researched for the past two decades. Natural sources are often considered to have desirable biodegradable properties. This review article covers characteristics of some common biopolymers and their synthesis from natural sources like leaf extracts, seeds and agricultural waste. Various characterization techniques including FTIR, XRD and SEM along with the assessment of their degradation also have been enlightened. This review aims to deeply understand the applicability of biopolymer in various fields such as medicinal, cosmetics, food packaging, which play a crucial role in our daily life activities.
