Abstract
The work evaluates the multiple objectives underpinning the planting of economic trees crops in educational institutions. The objectives of the study were to; identify the objectives for planting economic trees, examine the level of achievement of tree planting objectives and evaluate the effect of the identified objectives on tree planting decision in educational institutions. The study was conducted in Delta state, Nigeria. About 90 respondents were used for the study and data was collected with the aid of questionnaire. The tools for data analysis were descriptive statistics and ANOVA. The result shows that about 75% of respondent planted trees for aesthetic, health, social, economic, education and climate change mitigation objectives were the identified objectives for planting economic trees. The ANOVA result shows that education, climate change mitigation and aesthetic objectives were significantly achieved by respondents. The study recommends that heads of educational institutions should periodically evaluate the objectives underpinning tree crop planting whether the expected benefits are realized or not. Also government should include tree planting as part of accreditation criteria in educational institutions due to the better air quality trees crops generate for environmental sustainability.
