Abstract
Now days the long-term used antibiotics become resistance or weekly sensitive by the various type of bacterial strains. Combinations of Antibiotics and plants antimicrobial products are very useful against bacteria. Many Indian medicinal plants traditionally used in medicines were subjected to preliminary antibacterial screening against several pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms. Aqueous, and ethanolic extracts of each plant were tested for their antibacterial activity using agar well diffusion method and disk diffusion method. The results indicated many plants exhibited antibacterial activity against one or more test pathogens. For current study we have selected two traditional medicinal plants, Phyllanthus emblica (Amla) and Allium cepa (Red and white onion). Onion ethanol extract has shown the antibacterial activity in the form of zone of inhibition against E. coli and Amla has shown its antibacterial activities against K. pneumoniae and P. aeruginosa. Onion has not shown any antibacterial activities against K. pneumoniae and P. aeruginosa and amla had no activity against E. coli. As a result, the dose of commercial drugs and so hence the side effects caused by these commercial drugs can be reduced with the use of combination with phytochemicals. Pharmacodynamics studies of the combinations need to be performed to decide on the effective dosage.
