Abstract
With the recent developments in market, mushroom as edible commodity has diversified its role and has started to show its various utilizations apart from being edible and medicinal in a broad spectrum. From being used for biogas production, to curing cancer cells as well as in food industry as an anti freezing agent it has its roots in every bits and corner in our day to day life. Progress of veganism has played an role to influence us to know about its various properties. A commonly grown button mushroom (Agaricus sp) has features like boosting of T-cells and atherosclerosis. Oyster and enoki mushroom has high level of antioxidants present in it and are used as anti-inflammatory agents as well as anti HIV and anti-freezing agent respectively. World’s costliest mushrooms cordyceps are used to check asthma symptoms. So the varied nature of different mushroom species is discussed further in this review.
