Abstract
The plant Acorus calamus was highly utilized in ancient times to treat and control diseases. Since in ancient times, it has been used in Ayurveda and Siddha medicinal systems. It has tremendous traditional and ethanomedicinal properties. The plant parts are rhizome and leaf which are having remarkable bioactive biomedical compounds. The whole part of this plant was used for various treatments like cancer; diarrhea, depression, and it have effect on central nervous system. This plant has many phyto-constituents responsible for antimicrobial, antidiabetic and antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activity. Due to these properties of A. calamus plant can lead to develop and formulated a new drug. This review is precise the important phyto-constituents and its biomedical applications.
