Abstract

The in vitro bulblet growth of Lilium sp. (Asiatic hybrid) cv. Toscana was increased noticeably by supplementing the culture medium with maleic hydrazide, salicylic acid, paclobutrazol, and sucrose. Sucrose and maleic hydrazide enhanced the size of the bulblets 2.2 fold and 2 fold, while the increase in dry weight of bulblets was 7 fold and 4 fold, respectively over the control. As compared to the control all the chemicals in different concentrations in the medium were more effective in enhancing the bulblet size. Oreover, the rate of multiplication was not increased by the chemicals over the control.
