Abstract
Effect of Amiprophosmethyl (APM) was studied on mitotic index and micronuclei formation in Apisol, a cultivar of H. annuus. Results indicated that mitotic cell divisions were inhibited upon the application of amiprophosmethyl over their untreated controls. Longer exposure of cultures to APM resulted in the death of cells. The mitotic index varied with concentrations and durations of APM treatments. Formation of micronuclei was achieved in all the APM treatments. APM at 32 ?M for 24h showed highest number of micronuclei i.e. 14.5 %. A protocol has been developed starting from initial cultures to the formation of micronuclie and the findings are presented in this paper.
