Abstract

Callus of Aristolochia indica and Aristolochia bracteolata was induced on MS basal medium supplemented with 3.0 mg/l and 1.0 mg/l of NAA from leaf explants of A. bracteolata and A. indica respectively. Aristolochic acid (AA) I and II were identified and quatified. In A. bracteolata, normal leaf and root has almost equal amount of AA I and AA II, but in A. indica only AA I was identified in the in vitro callus culture. In A. indica in normal sample (leaf and root), AA I predominated and AAII was negligible but callus has shown increased level of AA II.

Keywords: Aristolochia indica, Aristolochia bracteolate, Aristolochic acid derivative
