Abstract

A simple procedure for high frequency multiple shoot regeneration from shoot meristem of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) has been developed. Shoot apices from 1-week-old aseptically grown seedlings were cultured in vitro on MS medium supplemented with either Benzylamino purine (BA, 2 mg/l) or Thidiazuron (TDZ, 2 uM and 5 uM/l). Both BAP and TDZ induced the production of multiple shoots from enlarged apical meristems. Fertile wheat plants were produced from in vitro regenerated multiple shoots.
