Abstract
A rapid and reproducible regeneration protocol has been established in Musa acuminate Colla. Shoot tip explants were subjected to vertical cut before inoculation. Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 8 mg/l BA or a combination of 0.1 mg/l NAA and 8 mg/l BA produced 47 and 42 plantlets with an average length of 6.2 cm and 5.6 cm respectively after 60 days. Rhizogenesis was observed in the same medium after 30 days. The rooted shoots were hardened in cow dung and sand mixture (2:1) at room temperature. The regenerated plants showed 96% survival rate in field conditions.
