Abstract

Proliferating friable callus was induced from zygotic embryos of hybrid Phyllanthus emblica Linn., a tropical as well as highly medicinal tree plant, on MS medium containging 1mgl-1 2,4-D and 1mgl-1 KIN. This friable callus differentiated into normal somatic embryos on transfer to medium containing 2mgl-1 KIN. These embryos germinated into seedlings on incubation in hormone free medium. This protocol renders an efficient system for in vitro production of large number of seedlings.
