Abstract

Vitex negundo commonly known as five- leaved chaste tree or Nirgundi is a deciduous shrub with thin grey bark. A successful protocol for in vitro regeneration of V. negundo from nodal explants on MS medium supplemented with different concentrations of BAP, NAA and Kn. Multiple shoots were developed on MS medium supplemented with 1 mg/L BAP. Roots were initiated within 15 days on half strength MS medium supplemented with 0.1 mg/L IBA. In vitro flower heads were also noticed in the matured plantlets in the same medium. The rooted plantlets were successfully established in the field.
