Abstract

Multiple shoot regeneration from shoot tip explants of Basilicum polystachyon (L) Moench, was achieved on Murashige and Skoog's (MS) basal medium supplemented with 0.5 ?M naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and 2.5 ?M 6-benzyladenine (BA). Regenerated shoots were rooted on half-strength MS-medium. In vitro flowering was observed within 25-30 days in the same medium. A reduction of the juvenile phase was achieved. In vitro flowers did not show any abnormality and produced viable seeds.
