Abstract

Callus induction and high frequency regeneration was obtained from nodal explants of five-year-old plants of Syzygiun cuminii when cultured on WP medium supplemented with 2,4-D (4.5 ?M) and BA (4.4 ?M). Calli were subcultured on WP medium with different concentrations of BA (0.04-17.7?M). Shoot initiation was observed in 4.4 ?M -13.3 ?M BA containing medium but addition of Kn (0.46-23.2 ?M) increased the number of shoots within 40-50 days. Rooting of shoots occurred in WP medium supplemented with IBA (0.24-4.9 ?M) or 1.5mg/l charcoal. Sixty to seventy percent of the hardened plants were survived after transfer to soil.
