Abstract
Efficient plant regeneration via morphogenesis followed by plantlet regeneration has been achieved in pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan L. Mill. sp.). Mature cotyledon explants from 7 days old seedlings produced organogenic callus and somatic embryos, when cultured on MS medium supplement with different concentration and combination of a cytokinin and an auxin. Maximum plantlets were recovered from genotype ICPL-87 on culture medium MS3BN (MS macro and micro salts, vitamins, 30 g l-1 sucrose and 3.0 mg l-1 BAP with 0.5 mg l-1 NAA) mostly via somatic embryogenesis. The rooted plantlets were transferred and acclimatized in glass house where they showed normal morphological characters.
