Abstract
An efficient protocol for plantlet regeneration through the leaf calli has been established on Andrographis alata Nees. The leaf explants proliferate into luxuriant callus mass on MS medium fortified with 7 M NAA. Interaction of the same hormones at the concentrations of 1 to 4 M BAP and 0.5 to 1 M NAA induced differentiation of shoot buds from the calli. Caulogenesis was optimized (15.05 shoots / callus) at the concentration of 2 M BAP and 0.5 M NAA. The microshoots rooted well on MS medium containing 1 M BAP with 0.75 to 1.25 M NAA. The plantlets derived from the leaf calli were well acclimatized into soil and exhibited morphological variations when compared to in vivo plants.
