Abstract

This work involves the implementation of a mini-system "Phragmifiltre" purification that uses the reed (Phragmites australis) as a model plant. Every tank is packed with two successive layers. The upper one is gravel having different particle size. The lower layer is sand. The reeds are implanted and irrigated with 20 liters of water worn gross reduced from the Water treatment plant the city of Guelma (Algeria). After 7 days of retention the water is drainedfor analysis physico-chemical and bacteriological. The results show effectiveness of the treatment system applied with the abatement rates: 88% for COD, 88.81% for BOD5, 94.64% for TSS, 100% for NO3-, 76% for NH4+ and 77.77% for PO4-3. Also, we raised an abatement of 100% of indicators of faecal contamination and pathogen.
