Abstract

Bacopa monnieri is an important medicinal plant due to its active compound (bacopaside I, bacoside A3). This study reports on developing reliable protocols for large scale production of this medicinally important endangered plant. BAP 1.0 mg/l alone and BAP 1.0 mg/l in combination with IAA 1.0 mg/l appeared to be optimum for inducing the maximum number of shoot buds. Random amplified polymorphic DNA analysis was carried out using five random primers. The amplification products were monomorphic in micropropagated plants and similar to those of mother plant. No polymorphism was detected revealing the genetic integrity of in vitro develop unique plantlet.
