Abstract
In the present study, the effects of elicitor combination such as salicylic acid (SA) and yeast extract (YE) or SA and methyl jasmonate (MeJA) in various concentrations and elicitation days on the growth and asiaticoside production of centella (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) cells were investigated. The results showed that the addition of SA and YE into the cultures significantly enhanced the biosynthesis of asiaticoside compare to SA and MeJA. Asiaticoside reached a highest content of 277.9 mg/g dry weight when cells elicited with 100 µM SA and 3 g/L YE at day 10 of inoculation, 1.2-fold higher than optimal concentration of combination of SA (100 µM) and MeJA (50 µM).
