Abstract

The present study was carried out to evaluate the effect of different chromium concentrations on growth of ten sorghum genotypes. Pots experiment was carried out in Nursery of the Department of Horticulture - Faculty of Agriculture - University of Khartoum. Ten sorghum genotypes (Tabat, Wad Ahmed, L4, L7, L12, L14, L16, L25, L32, and L34) were used in this study. Chromium treatments consist of eight concentrations (0.0, 2.5, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50) mg/L. The chromium concentrations were applied to sorghum seedling after two weeks of sowing; the data were collected at 4th 8th and 12th week after chromium application to measure the plant height and root length. The results obtained that, the plant height and root length was significantly decreased with increasing chromium concentration. Different sorghum genotypes show different level of tolerance to chromium, the results indicated that L14 was the most tolerance genotype and L16 was the most sensitive genotype.
